...New DISCUSSION...
.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 230 PM CDT Tue Apr 8 2025
Tonight through next Monday...Overall, a rather quiet forecast will
exist across the region through next Monday. The only "bump in the
road" per say, will come Thursday evening. This is when a cold
front is progged to drop south into and through the forecast area,
bringing with it a chance of showers and thunderstorms to mainly
eastern portions of the CWA.
However before that, high pressure at the surface will remain in
control of the weather across the region through mid-week. This, as
northwest flow aloft persists across the Lower Mississippi River
Valley. Quiet weather will prevail across the CWA through Thursday
afternoon. Winds will become southerly on Wednesday, causing
moisture to subtly begin returning to the region. Therefore,
conditions will gradually moderate up through Thursday.
Lows tonight will be the coolest during this regime, as they range
from the middle 30s across the the Golden Triangle area and East
Central Mississippi, to the middle 40s over areas west of the
Mississippi River. With good radiational cooling conditions tonight
over Northeast and East Central Mississippi tonight, some patchy
frost will be possible in some areas. This could result in some
minor damage to unprotected vegetation, as the growing season is
well underway. As a result, I`ll hoist a "Limited Threat" for
patchy frost across this area for tonight.
Each day and night through Thursday afternoon will be a little
warmer than the day and night before. Highs on Wednesday will
generally top out in the low and middle 70s areawide, with some
lower 80s creeping in over areas mainly along and south of the
Interstate 20 corridor Thursday afternoon. Then for both Wednesday
night and Thursday nights, lows will only range from the upper
40s to middle 50s.
Thursday night into Friday, a strengthening longwave trough will dig
southeast into the Deep South. This will result in a surface low
pressure system developing across the Ohio River Valley, which will
drag a cold front south through the forecast area overnight Thursday
into Friday morning. Ahead of this front, sufficient deep-layer
wind shear will exist across the area, along with a modestly
unstable airmass, and cold temperatures aloft resulting in steep mid-
level lapse rates (7-8C/KM) and vertical totals around 30. This
will result in a "Marginal Risk" of isolated severe storms across
areas mainly north of the Interstate 20 corridor Thursday
evening. Damaging wind gusts and hail to the size of quarters will
be the primary concerns with these storms.
This activity will quickly clear out of the area into early Friday
morning, with quieter conditions expected by sunrise Friday. A
slightly drier airmass will advect into the region Friday, and will
remain over us through much of the upcoming weekend. By next Monday
though, moisture will again begin to subtly increasing across the
area as winds become southerly once again. After cool days and
nights Friday through Saturday night, temperatures will likewise
begin moderating up Sunday through Monday night. /19/
